Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is the cost covered?
A: Many employers with extended health plans offer some coverage for Registered Clinical Counsellors. Check with your insurer. If it is, I write receipts with my registration number for you to submit for reimbursement. I am also registered with the Victim Services Program and your counselling could be covered by that program. Q: Is what I tell you confidential?
A: Rest assured that all conversations you have with me are confidential. However, there are 3 conditions in which all counsellors are legally bound to break confidentiality: 1) If you have a clear plan to hurt yourself or someone else (not just a thought). 2) If someone under the age of 18 is at risk of being hurt. 3) If your records are subpoenaed. Q: How long are the sessions?
A: The session are for 50 minutes. However, longer sessions can be pre-arranged. Often couples or families find it useful to have more time in the session. If you would like a longer session we can talk about the cost at that time. Q: Do you offer a sliding scale or reduced rates?
A: Yes, on a case by case basis. |
Q: If I am paying for my young person's session, will you tell me what they are saying?
A: This is negotiated at the beginning of our work together. Ideally, the sessions would be private so that the child feels safe enough to discuss anything. However, if the parents do want to have access to the information, then the child will know this ahead of time. We can discuss this is more detail during your appointment if necessary. Q: What is your cancellation policy? What if I'm sick?
A: You have up to 24 hours before the session to cancel your appointment without penalty. The full fee will be charged if you provide less than 24 hours notice unless there is an emergency. Q: What if I am running late?
A: Text or leave a message to let me know when you expect to arrive. Please keep in mind that I might be in another session up until your appointment so I may not reply right away. I am willing to wait 30 minutes for you to arrive and you will have the remaining scheduled time. After that our session is cancelled. Either way, you will be billed for the full session. Q: What if Dennis has to cancel?
A: If I have to cancel or change your session with less than 24 hours notice, you will get your next session free. Q. What Methods of Payment are accepted?
